Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) sector is gradually emerging as the country looks for cleaner and more affordable alternatives to petrol and diesel transportation. Rising fuel prices, urban air pollution, and climate concerns have increased interest in EVs, especially electric bikes, rickshaws, and small cars. The government has introduced an Electric Vehicle Policy that encourages local manufacturing, reduces import duties on EV components, and promotes charging infrastructure development. These steps aim to make electric transport more accessible to the public.
Despite this progress, challenges remain for widespread EV adoption in Pakistan. Limited charging stations, high upfront costs, and pressure on the national power grid slow down growth. However, private companies and startups are investing in battery technology, charging solutions, and locally assembled EVs to address these issues. If infrastructure and awareness continue to improve, electric vehicles could play an important role in Pakistan’s future transportation system.
